Great breakdown, Rhys. Especially Crimson Desert section.

Pearl Abyss really built a robust marketing system over the months (years, really), and it’s now visibly paying off. Will Powers is a great face for the team and I’d love to pick his brain about his method and philosophy, everything he and the team have done seems tailor made to either hype up the community or put them at ease.

The wishlist curve really says it all, 680K wishlists in a single month is INSANE. But it makes sense given what we’ve seen about how the team build and compound trust.

I think the lesson for game devs (especially smaller teams who can’t outspend their way to visibility) is that community building isn’t a phase of the marketing plan, or separate from it. Community IS the marketing plan, and it’s not something you can just “turn on” three months before launch. I know this from personal experience, too.

Have some thoughts about Xbox too, but this comment’s long enough as it is lol. Anyway, I’m really hyped for this game. Already pre-ordered, actually! Can’t wait to see the launch numbers next week.
